I love authentic historical dramas
Plot
During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, an American sports broadcast crew must adapt to live coverage of Israeli athletes being held captive by a terrorist group. Especially in the eras I lived in. This comes across as authentic.
Just boring, I hate to say
It’s a story I’m familiar with and have seen in various film formats over the years. As I said in the title above, I found this telling the most interesting. I saw Spielberg’s “Munich” in the theater years ago and I still remember feeling it was a bit overlong and bloated.
And metaphorically over the top
This version of the facts is more succinct, this film’s running time is shorter, and the clock in the film is ticking and lives are at stake. Plus, airtime. You’re in the control room of ABC’s Wide World of Sports when the tragic terrorist attacks occur during the 1972 Olympics in Germany.
Cigarettes are being smoked
Rotary dial phones are used for communication. And there’s a major crisis going on in the Olympic Village. It’s a good history lesson for Generation Z.
They might stand to learn a little history
I even think it’s appropriate for grade-level history classes in the classroom, middle school and up, but it’s rated R, so no.But history is rarely beautiful.John Magaro and Ben Chaplin shine the most with their outstanding performances.This is worth a trip to the movies.It wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring your high school-aged child to the theater with you while you watch it. Afterward, they’ll walk out with you and say, “Did that really happen?”
