Former CIA counterintelligence director James Jesus Angleton, also known as the “spy-poet”, described the intelligence game as the “desert of mirrors”, which was a phrase borrowed from a poem by T.S. Eliot called Gerontion (the title is Greek for “little old man”, and the poem is an interior monologue recounting the opinions and impressions of an old man, describing post-World War I Europe through the eyes of a man who has lived most of his life in the 19th century).

I don’t understand all the negativity in the reviews, yes its pacing is not in Bourne territory but it is suspenseful, fabulously acted and holds your attention.
Don’t let any of the negativity stop you from looking, it’s worth your time
I haven’t seen the French original before this so forgive me if I don’t give a comparison but it would be a shame if any negative comparisons were to deter the enjoyment of this. Maybe the concerns about the pacing come from binge watching culture, it is probably slow going if you want to watch multiple episodes in one sitting but I honestly can’t see any problem with that.
